| Forest Grove Community Association
Forest Grove Community Association is trying to keep up with the times. Their Community Centre was built in 1965 when the community was new and made up mostly of young families. Now, in 2005, the Forest Grove neighbourhood has a larger number of senior citizens and many of them would like to use the community centre. Some changes are needed to the community centre to accommodate the seniors. The gym, which is not used during the day, can be renovated and converted to a lounge and an arts and crafts room. The seniors would also like to operate a café with a patio in the summer, which would require some renovations to the kitchen. In addition to these capital needs, the Community Association would also like to add a part-time staff person who would support the senior’s programs.
The City is willing to share the cost of the staff person with the Community Association, leaving the Community Association to come up with $20,000 per year for this position. The Community Association has decided to charge the seniors enough for their programs to cover the cost of operations, so the money for the addition position and the renovations must come from fundraising. Your job is to plan a fund development program that will raise the $20,000 per year needed for the salary and the $80,000 needed for the renovations. The Community Association has a good group of volunteers who are willing to help, but does not have any fund raising staff. They have not had to raise this much money before, so the goal will be ambitious for them. The Association is a registered charity.
