Case Study 2

Inner City Boy's Club

Inner City Boy's Club was founded just 2 years ago by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to provide under-privileged boys living in the inner city area with recreational opportunities, positive role models and positive peer situations.  The focus of the programs is on contact sports like boxing, judo and karate.

The citizens formed a non-profit society and started a club in an old warehouse they have rented. Some of the founders put up the money to get the club started themselves and some of them were able to get corporate sponsors for equipment purchases. The club has not been able to do any other fundraising until they received their charitable registration number from the Canada Revenue Agency. They just received the registration number and are now able to issue tax receipts.

Your job is to develop a fund development program that will meet the club's objectives over the next two years. Ultimately, the club would like to build their own facility, but in the meantime the focus will be on adding staff, renovation of facilities, and increasing the number of boys participating in the club's programs.

The Board has determined the fund development goals to be: $100,000 to provide salaries for part-time staff and instructors for the next two years, $100,000 to hire a full time executive director and an administrative assistant, $100,000 to renovate the clubhouse and purchase additional equipment and $25,000 for promotional programs and advertising and $50,000 to subsidize membership fees of financially disadvantaged boys.
